This is a great story and shows how a dedicated, creative teacher can find a new and exciting way to teach geometry to students. By now most of us are familiar with Beyonce’s latest song “Formation” because of her Feb. 7th, 2016 Superbowl 50 performance of this song and the subsequent praise and backlash that came the the Black Panther, Black Lives Matter, Malcolm X inspired theme.
There is a video on Facebook that is going viral posted by Dark Viral Memes that shows an African American female teacher using Beyonce’s song “Formation” to teach geometry. The students also sing the song in Spanish. This is something to see. If I had a teacher like this when I had geometry in high school I would have received an A instead of a B.
“I’m so crazy with my circular measurements. Pi times diameter gives me the circumference. I’m so reckless every time I square radius. I multiply it times Pi to get the area. Geometry matters Down in Louisiana. Remix these lyrics with vocab because math matters.”
